SAMPLE PROJECT
Feeding the Queer Archive (2022)
Feeding the Queer Archive was the opening exhibition of The Queer Archive Festival #3 (2022). The exhibition at Romantso (Athens) showcased seven international queer artists presenting a series of photographs, collages, video installations and interactive works addressing issues of gender identity, sexual expression, intimacy, acceptance and communication in the digital / post COVID-19 era. Curated by Konstantinos Menelaou, the exhibition featured works by: Alina Gross, Callum Leo Hughes, Qingyi Ren, Stiofan O’Ceallaigh, Unseen That, Shia Conlon and Kostis Kontogewrgos.
Callum Leo Hughes presented 18 collages from his series You into kissing too? across three wooden cabinets in the centre of the exhibition. The series of A3 works on paper looked at reconnecting in the shadow of COVID-19. The artist received a message on a dating app asking “you into kissing too?”. The series reflects on how kissing had become a question, sex without kissing not being merely an intimacy issue anymore. Renavigating touch; relearning intimacy with family, friends and strangers; questioning risks of travel to see loved ones and lovers; restoring frayed connections and initiating IRL interactions all being part of the summer of 2021.
The series of works are individually mounted on A3 200gsm acid free paper.
